CFCC exhibit showcases some of the best in student art work

"Another award from the show is the distinguished CFCC Purchase Award.

"Dr. (Charles) Dassance has established a permanent student collection, so we try to buy three or four pieces a year that are then put around the campus," said Thursby, adding most are located in the Fine Arts Auditorium.

Jan Hyde said "it blew my mind" when the college purchased her charcoal drawing, "Time Heals All Wounds." The piece, pulled from her memories as a young girl growing up in the segregated South, shows an hourglass separating the history of blacks, from the haunting images of slavery, to the success and progress of the race.

"The assignment was a montage. I had seen examples of the montages and I wasn't impressed because I don't see any point of having an eyeball in the sky," said Hyde, raised in Atlanta. "If I had to spend the time doing a project, I wanted it to mean something. I had to make a statement. "
